Melissa's Greek Island Adventure
We started our adventure in Corfu which is a major hub and starting point for sailing adventures here in Greece. Our 4.8m Bali catamaran was home for three families and our skipper for the week. We berthed most nights in marinas, and explored so many stunning islands including Plataria, Svota, Parga, Paxos and Antipaxos. Each island also has a gorgeous village, and I found the landscapes quite Italian, almost like we were in the Amalfi at times.
The Italians had great influence on these islands many years ago. Thus the Italian look and feel. However, the food was very Greek and had some amazing meals. The Greek salads are next level. Moussakas and some very tasty local dishes.
On the boat we always had our own breakfasts and lunches as often we were anchored in small bays.
We spent most days in the aqua blue waters. We had paddle boards and lots of fun toys to enjoy. The week was the most wonderful experience and I highly recommend sailing in Greece.
We spent the last night in Corfu and explored the old town. Busy and lively. Heading to Paros next!
The island of Paros is part of the Cyclades group, and easily the most picturesque island with beautiful villages to visit everywhere.
Naoussa is Paros' main town and port where we've spent many hours wandering the cobbled streets, looking at the shops and soaking up the island atmosphere. Everything comes alive at night with night markets, restaurants and bars.
There are lots of beach clubs on offer, depending on where you want to spend the day and what sort of activities you want to do. Our favourite was the Farangas Beach Club located at the South end of the island with its white sand beach, turquoise waters and excellent service.
Antiparos is just a 7min ferry ride from Paros, and is well worth a visit for the incredible caves in the centre of the island. We also spent the day there at the Soro Beach Club.
You definitely need a car in Paros to explore the island properly. Everything is just 20mins drive away and the island is really easy to drive around. We've loved exploring all the villages during our stay. The village of Lefkes is also worth visiting. It's one of the oldest villages and located at the very centre of the island.
Paros is a MUST for anyone wanting to visit the Greek Islands! I'm looking forward to going back already.
Getting to Mykonos is really easy! There are direct flights from many European points. Because we were travelling from Paros, we had just a 45min SeaJet Ferry ride to get there.
Mykonos is very different to many of the islands. It's extremely busy and bustling with tourists thanks to the multiple cruise ships arriving daily. It's also well known as a party island so there are big groups of young people wandering around. The good thing is that they mostly sleep all day and party from midnight onwards so they rarely effected our experience.
The island is very beautiful with the famous windmills perched about the old town. Wandering through all the cobbled streets, we loved all the quaint tavernas and local bars plus the shopping is excellent too! From high end designer shops to street bargains, there's something for everyone.
We hired a car and explored several beaches with aqua clear waters which we enjoyed from the gorgeous sun loungers at each of the beach clubs. The cost ranged from E50-70 for a pair of loungers for the day.
Mykonos is really expensive - more so than most of the other islands - so be prepared for this when you travel here!
We loved our 5 days on Mykonos but every island is very different and special in its own way.
