Arriving in the beautiful Scandinavian capital of Copenhagen blanketed in fresh snow felt like stepping straight into a fairytale. The air was crisp, the rooftops shimmered white, and every corner seemed touched by a little Christmas magic. We had an action-packed three days ahead of us, and the city did not disappoint.

Our festive adventure began at Højbro Plads Christmas Market and the charming Hans Christian Andersen Market, where each stall is inspired by one of his beloved stories. If there’s one thing the Danes truly master, it’s Christmas lights. Copenhagen glows. Strings of warm bulbs drape across old streets, trees sparkle softly, and the whole city feels like a scene from a holiday movie.

We continued the Christmas magic with a visit to the world-famous Tivoli Gardens, which transforms into a sparkling winter wonderland during the holiday season. Snow-dusted trees, thousands of twinkling lights, festive stalls, and the smell of roasted chestnuts drifting through the air.

Tivoli felt like stepping into a living Christmas postcard. Wandering through its enchanting pathways was a highlight of our trip.

Of course, we made time for the iconic sights. First up: The Little Mermaid small, serene, and steeped in the timeless tale known around the world. We then headed to Amalienborg Palace, home of the Danish royal family. They were in residence during our visit, and the palace square felt especially grand with guards in their winter uniforms and flags flying proudly.

Another wonderful experiences was joining a Danish Christmas cookie class. Rolling dough, shaping traditional festive biscuits, decorating.  Learning local holiday baking secrets was such a wholesome and joyful way to immerse ourselves in Danish culture. And yes our cookies tasted amazing!

No visit to Copenhagen is complete without wandering through Nyhavn. Its brightly coloured houses lining the canal looked even more magical under the festive lights and snowy cobblestones. We warmed up with classic smørrebrød and a steaming cup of gløgg, spiced to perfection.

We spent a truly wonderful few days soaking up the winter wonderland atmosphere. Copenhagen was the perfect place to begin our magical Christmas journey sparkling, storybook-like, and utterly unforgettable.
