A Family Holiday in Dubrovnik

Melissa updates us on her Croatia adventure which now has the family exploring Dubrovnik…

Our catamaran transfer from Hvar to Dubrovnik took just three hours - such a cheap and efficient way to move around the islands!

We chose to stay in Lapad, a peaceful seaside neighborhood just a short drive from Dubrovnik’s Old Town. It’s a perfect base surrounded by coves, beaches, and a vibrant promenade lined with restaurants. By day, you can dip into the crystal-clear sea; by night, enjoy fresh seafood under a canopy of stars.

But nothing, and I mean nothing, compares to the Old City of Dubrovnik. Encased entirely in towering stone walls, it’s like stepping into another world. Walking the city walls is an absolute must. Yes, it costs €40 for adults and €15 for kids under 18, but trust me the views of the terracotta rooftops spilling toward the sea are worth every cent.

For a different vantage point, we opted for a tuk tuk tour instead of the popular cable car, and it was brilliant fun, fast, and full of photo stops. Another unforgettable day was spent on a rented boat, cruising hidden beaches and secret coves, diving into turquoise waters like something straight from a dream.

History buffs will love the guided walking tours that peels back the centuries of Dubrovnik’s fascinating past and for Game of Thrones fans, this is the place. Welcome to King’s Landing!

Dubrovnik truly has something for everyone. From dramatic cliffs to medieval charm, it’s a city you don’t just visit you feel it. And once you do, you’ll never forget it.
