Melissa's Dream Ski Holiday in SilverStar and Whistler

By Melissa, Travel Agent & Managing Director

If you’ve been craving a snow-filled escape that blends adventure, luxury, and postcard-perfect scenery, let me take you on a journey through two of Canada’s most spectacular ski destinations — SilverStar and Whistler. This was no ordinary trip. I recently took my family on a ski holiday to remember, and I’m here to share every magical moment with you.

First Stop: SilverStar Mountain Resort, BC

Our journey began with a flight into Vancouver, followed by a quick 45-minute hop to Kelowna — the gateway to SilverStar Mountain Resort. From the airport, it was just a one-hour transfer to the lodge, where the winter wonderland truly began.

SilverStar has an undeniable charm, with its vibrant, fairy-lit village that feels like you’ve stepped into a snow globe or a Christmas movie. Think Disneyland for snow lovers — but with fewer crowds and more powder! This colourful pedestrian village is ski-in/ski-out, so you can literally ski through town before popping back to your lodge.

We stayed at the gorgeous Snowbird Lodge, perched just above the gondola. Our two-bedroom condo had everything we could wish for — two bathrooms, a spacious lounge and kitchen, fireplaces for cozy evenings, and our own private hot tub on the deck with views of the snowy peaks.

SilverStar’s slopes are dreamy for intermediate skiers — soft, dry snow and beautiful tree runs made us feel like we were gliding through a storybook forest. And there’s something for everyone, from snow tubing and ice skating on a frozen lake to exploring on SkiDoos and enjoying miles of cross-country ski trails.

Being there for New Year’s Eve was a highlight — imagine hundreds of skiers descending the mountain with lights, creating a twinkling trail that went on for miles, followed by a dazzling fireworks show. It was simply unforgettable.

Next Stop: Whistler – Big Mountain, Big Thrills

After a magical six days in SilverStar, we swapped charming for iconic with our next stop: Whistler. One of the world’s most legendary ski resorts, Whistler offered a totally different vibe — bigger, bolder, and buzzing with energy.

We checked into a two-bedroom condo at the Pan Pacific Mountainside, located right at the base of the gondola — ultra-convenient for getting first lifts and making the most of the mountain. The skiing here? Absolutely world-class. With terrain that spans over two massive mountains, Whistler boasts some of the longest runs in North America — up to 11km in a single go!

But it’s not all about the skiing. Whistler village is pedestrian-only and packed with fabulous restaurants, lively bars, boutique shopping, and off-slope adventures galore. Whether you’re après-skiing in style, trying snowshoeing, or indulging in a gourmet meal, Whistler delivers.

The mountain itself caters to every skill level. From gentle greens and wide blues to thrilling bowls and tree-lined blacks, the variety is unmatched. Every day felt like a new adventure — and by the end of our five nights here, we were joyfully exhausted, with sore legs and full hearts.
